I am the Security Director for DTO, bringing over a decade of experience in the security industry. Prior to founding DTO, I served 9 years in the police force, working on the front lines in roles such as tactical crime units and other high-intensity operations. Even before joining the police, I was actively involved in store security, making my total experience in this field well over 20 years.
Throughout my career, I’ve specialized in both external and internal theft prevention—tracking dishonest employees and customers alike. In the mid to late 1990s, I held one of the top three retail theft catch rates in New Zealand. Since leaving the police, I’ve maintained close relationships within the force, allowing me to stay up-to-date with the latest powers, laws, and strategies surrounding retail crime.
In recent years, I’ve also worked as a private investigator, taking on assignments that have led me overseas. To me, theft prevention isn't just a talent—it’s a psychological science. I train my team in this discipline, placing them in live retail environments to sharpen their instincts and techniques.
I founded DTO after identifying a critical gap in the market: the inability of traditional security guards to retrieve stolen items. I witnessed widespread complacency and apathetic conduct among guards—behavior that left stores vulnerable and profits bleeding. DTO was built to reverse that trend. We focus on proactive, lawful recovery of goods, blending professionalism with a deep understanding of retail law to protect businesses without overstepping legal boundaries.
